After dominating the enterprise mobile email space with the BlackBerry solution for so many years, RIM is no longer the only serious game in town. Despite a number of false starts, arch-rival Microsoft now appears to have closed the gap, at least in terms of forward looking commitment.

In a recent survey we ran in conjunction with The Register news and information site (906 respondents), the number of enterprises citing native MS Exchange with ActiveSync as their strategic mobile email platform was almost identical to the number committed to RIM Blackberry.

  1. I think a big question in Exchange land out there, how long will it take RIM this time to support Exchange 2010? The delay’s in support for Exch 2007 were intolerable, and with more pressure for companies to actually get off of Exch 2003 upon 2010’s release, BB support will be a limiting factor in deployment if they don’t get it together quickly.
