Mille Miglia 2016 – Some PowerBI insights

6 maart 2016

Today I started experimenting a bit with the data from the 2016 Mille Miglia in PowerBI. I have created some reports based on the accepted cars PDF of the Mille Miglia 2016, as I was curious how many attendees, from how many countries are participating. Also some nice insights into the different cars etc ..

It is easy to embed the reports you create with some automatically generated embed code. For those not familiar with PowerBI, you can click the charts to filter the data …

Forrester: ‘Overname Cognos is defensieve zet’

13 november 2007

Mercury News: Oracle rival SAP plans to buy Business Objects for $6.8 billion

8 oktober 2007

Business Intelligence is, very much like Enterprise Content Management, a field that is consolidating very rapidly. Business Objects seems the ‘victim’ in this process …

… SAP plans to spend $6.8 billion to buy software maker Business Objects, the companies said Sunday.

The deal comes months after a SAP competitor – Redwood City-based Oracle – picked up a business smaller than Business Objects with a similar mission.

SAP, based in Walldorf, Germany, with offices in the Bay Area, said the board of Business Objects, based in Paris, with offices in San Jose, expects to recommend the offer to its shareholders soon.

Under the terms of the agreement, SAP will pay 42 euros ($59.35) a share in cash.

SAP develops software that businesses use for payroll and supply-chain management. Business Objects creates software that helps businesses analyze their sales data.

The move comes after rival Oracle said in March that it would buy the financial services and business software company Hyperion for $3.3 billion, as both Oracle and SAP attempt to grow their presence in the mid-size-company market.

But Henning Kagermann, SAP’s chief executive, and Business Objects officials said this deal was different because their two companies don’t have the same amount of overlap as Oracle and Hyperion.

Business Objects would operate as a stand-alone business within SAP. …

Microsoft is poised to reach more decision-makers than ever before.

…

As part of its commitment to providing industry-leading business intelligence solutions, Microsoft Corp. has launched Microsoft® Office PerformancePoint™ Server 2007, an application that enables companies to drive performance through monitoring, analyzing and planning their business using one integrated solution. Microsoft Business Intelligence (BI) allows more people at all levels of an organization to make better decisions, and has the vision of reaching every decision-maker and adding value to every decision. With Office PerformancePoint Server 2007, Microsoft is building on its existing BI solution to enable companies to drive strategy development, alignment and accountability across the entire organization.

“First we built a highly scalable BI platform, then we built BI tools with an unparalleled ease of use. Computable : Omzet BI-markt groeit flink

4 juli 2007

Forrester: Ouch! Get Ready — Spreadsheets Are Here To Stay For Business Intelligence

2 april 2007

Spreadsheets — the most widely used business intelligence (BI) tool — are a permanent fixture in enterprises because no other analytical application outperforms them in flexibility, ease of use, and ubiquity. Spreadsheets’ role in BI is no longer limited to simple import/export mechanisms; they now play an integral role in all layers of the BI stack. Yet the lack of controls and security and integrity issues create tremendous challenges. To minimize risks while gaining the inherent BI value of spreadsheets, information and knowledge management professionals must discriminate between the different ways spreadsheets are used. Then, they must help users apply advanced spreadsheet tools and techniques to their daily jobs, while also implementing a tightly controlled (or closely monitored) environment for critical production processes that rely on spreadsheet data. In turn, vendors should take advantage of this market opportunity by introducing tools that will bridge the gap between spreadsheet management and spreadsheet usage in the BI process.

Microsoft Excel is most likely the most widely used BI tool in the world …

Microsoft has made a good next step by introducing Excel Services.

Excel Services is a Microsoft Office SharePoint technology that makes it simple to use, share, secure, and manage Microsoft Office Excel 2007 workbooks (.xslx, xslb) as interactive reports in a consistent way throughout the enterprise.

White paper over nieuwe business intelligence-mogelijkheden

22 maart 2007
