Microsoft Monitor: More Developers, Developers, Developers

Back in August 2003 and October of that year, I blogged about Microsoft’s renewed push around software developers. My recent JupiterResearch report, “Microsoft 2005: Uncovering Partner and Competitor Opportunities,” also delves deep into Microsoft’s go-forward developer strategy.

Competitors should really take a hard look at what Microsoft is doing. While many other vendors pull sales by creating great products, Microsoft tends to focus on creating great tools that make it easier for third parties to develop products around the company’s platforms. Advantage for Microsoft is twofold: The approach helps ensure massive amounts of applications for Microsoft’s core platforms, and it creates a natural barrier to entry for competing platforms. …
